| This Montblanc Push Knob fountain pen was manufactured around the mid-1930s. It is a
simple design
without cap ring and clip. This fountain pen features
a nib clamp via
a rubber sac.
The top section of the barrel can be unscrewed slightly, allowing this piece (the push knob) to be pressed down. This linear motion acts on
a nib clamp that compresses the rubber sac. When
the Push Knob is released, the nib relaxes and
the sac can fill with ink.
Very simple but effective.
Unfortunately, the rubber sac in these old pieces
generally needs renewal, as the rubber becomes brittle and breaks.
The nib clamp is then usually damaged as well
and must be replaced.
It is often the case that the push knob cannot be moved
,
as it has become "one unit" with the stuck and detached
rubber sac. A layperson should not attempt
to repair this, as one can
destroy more than one would like. |
